Pro-rata pay scales a full-time salary to the hours or days you actually work. It is common for part-time roles, job shares and term-time contracts.

    How it’s worked out

Pro-rata salary = full-time salary × (actual ÷ full-time), using either hours or days per week.

    Worked examples

    • £40,000 full-time, 3 days of 5 → 60% → £24,000
    • £37,500 full-time, 22.5 hours of 37.5 → 60% → £22,500

Some employers use 35, 37.5 or 40 hours as full-time — match the contract. This tool shows gross pay only; use the pay rise or student loan calculators for net pay.

    Frequently asked questions

    How do I calculate a pro-rata salary?

Divide the hours or days you work by the full-time hours or days, then multiply by the full-time salary. Example: 3 days of a 5-day week is 60% of the full-time pay.
